I haven’t posted in a few days because I haven’t really known what to say. So here’s an update on what’s been going on the last few days.
Today
I took the day off work because I was going to a funeral today. April’s mom passed away last Wednesday, and this is very sad news because she was kind of like a second (or third or fourth*) mom to all of us. Even me, and I was a late joiner. She was funny and sarcastic and was NOT afraid to tell you if you were being stupid. *lol* The funeral was at 2pm, and Teresa & Alex picked me up, and we went. Dina & Stacy were there, and we all sort of leaned on each other. I started bawling at one point (I took it harder than I thought I would), and Dina hugged me, then she goes “Here, have a bunny tissue.” Well, before the service started, she showed us all her bunny tissues, and I thought it was just the packaging. Well, no. it was really tissue with a bunny on it. Not expecting it, I let out a cough/sneeze/laugh thing, and then I proceeded to laugh at myself (silently. I’m good at the silent laugh). Yeah, don’t take me to anything where you have to be “appropriate”.. that’s apparently the message I was sending. Thankfully we were right at the back, so I don’t think (I HOPE) I disturbed too many people, but it was extremely embarrassing. I like to think Pat would see the humor in it, but who knows. It was kind of just too much, I guess.
My heart goes out to April & John & the rest of April’s family, even if I didn’t really say anything - just hung on for dear life. The American Red Cross was kind enough to fly April’s sister in for the funeral (she lives in Germany where her husband is stationed) & to be with her family, so if you can spare a couple of dollars or airline miles to donate in Pat’s memory, it’s greatly appreciated by the family.
(I also got the address on my permit fixed & bought some groceries - just some milk & stuff & semi-cleaned the apartment & almost finished the last clog I have to knit. It will be done by the time I got to bed, then it just needs to be felted.)
Monday
Not much. Just work.
Sunday
Slept. Didn’t really do much of anything. I started and finished the scarf for Joe’s dad. I watched Freaks & Geeks, Party of Five, and Nick & Jessica, Season 2&3.
Saturday
Big day. Friend Christmas Party was cancelled because of all that happened, so I hung out with mom and Megan. We went to Yarn & Stitches in North Dallas. It felt like we were crashing someone’s party - we were there a few minutes before anybody even decided to look up and ask if we needed any help. We walked around a little while and then left. On the way to the Woolie Ewe, my sister said she didn’t like going to yarn stores cuz everything she wants to make needs to be knitted & she hates knitting. Well, Jill got ahold of her, and she’s officially a knitter. After that, we went to Michael’s so I could spend my birthday (yes, from October) gift card. I got Knitting On the Edge by Nicky Epstein (much better, in my opinion, than Knitting OVER the Edge), a couple balls of Sugar & Cream cotton & a yarn cutter (canNOT find mine!). After Michael’s, mom HAD to have another set of Addi Turbo Needles, so we went back to the Ewe. I didn’t get anything the first time, and I couldn’t go back TWICE and not get anything, so I bought some yarn like Megan’s to make a semi-matching belt someday after I finish Christmas knitting. She got pink & purple, and I bought purple & black. Then we went back to the house & watched Poltergeist and Nothing to Lose (it’s our family movie, despite the fact that it’s not really… family-friendly, what with the language and all. lol).
Anyway.. so that’s been my last few days.
I go back to work tomorrow, work through Friday, am off Monday for the holiday, work Tues-Friday at about 3:30-4pm, then I’m off to California until the 8th of January.
I can’t wait. I SO need the vacation.
