013.365: Lunch break

This is how I spent my lunch break today. Knitting & reading. I love that I’m working on something simple & mindless enough that I can read a book. I wish the book would stay open a little easier… there’s a lot of fidgeting involved with trying to read this book while I knit, but I’m not willing to give it up. lol. :) The book is pretty good. There are differences from the movie, but not enough (at least not yet) that I can say one is better than the other. I guess I’ll come to that conclusion when I’m done. I’m about halfway through, and to keep on track for the “52 Books in 52 Weeks” challenge, I have to finish it by tomorrow. I don’t know if that will happen, but you never know. :)

I finished the Binder of Doom, finally. It ended up having to be TWO Binders of DOOM, and I almost had a party when they were done. I MAY have danced a little bit. Today was playing catch up on all the stuff I got behind on last week, and I got done with everything that should have been done through yesterday, so not too bad. I was a typing fiend today. The next few days will hopefully be quiet, and then we get to do it all over again next week.

BTW – I spent most of today thinking it was Wednesday. I didn’t start out thinking that way, but by the time I got off work, I was really excited that tomorrow would be Thursday & I would get to go to Knit Night. I was so excited, I even told Joe, and he’s like “Umm, yeah, it’s Tuesday.” Oops!

Today was a pretty warm day. The apartment was freezing when I woke up this morning, so I figured it was going to be cold out, but when I left, it was actually pretty comfortable. When I was at lunch, it got up to about 70 degrees.

012.365: 64 degrees

When I left work at 7pm, it was still 64. Awesome! :) It’s supposed to be in the high 60s/low 70s all week. That rules. :)

Today was fairly lazy. I slept until about 11:30, and then I woke up and finished knitting a sock. Only one more to go. :D After that, I made my first crock pot recipe – BBQ Chicken. This BBQ Chicken recipe, actually. I can see how shredding it would make very yummy sandwiches or something, but we decided to just eat the chicken as is. It was yummy, but a little dry. I turned it on high for a bit, and I think it would’ve been just fine if I would’ve kept it cooking on Low.

My obsession with crepes, as evidenced by my links list, still hadn’t dwindled. I had everything to make the actual crepes, but no Nutella or bananas, so we ran to the store to get that and a couple of other things. The bananas weren’t ripe, so I ended up just making Nutella crepes, and they were DELICIOUS! :) There is still a bunch of batter left, so I stuck it in the fridge, and maybe I’ll have some for breakfast tomorrow. :D I used this recipe for the crepes, and I just spread a very generous helping of Nutella on each crepe before folding it half, spreading a little more Nutella, and folding it in quarters. Yummy is all I have to say.

I forgot to post yesterday. Honestly, though, I was so tired, I just couldn’t do anything. Except knit, of course. I did my fair share of net-surfing last night, but I forgot to post. Yesterday… the whole last week, in fact… sucked. But yesterday was the worst. We’ve been working on a project, trying to get it finished for the VPs next week, and every time I’d “finish” it, I would end up having to do twice as much work on it. WTF?

In the middle of all of this, I have a binder I need to update for one of the VPs. I finished the original project on Thursday and was looking forward to just printing all the stuff off that I need to update the Binder of DOOM and catching up on some other stuff I’ve had to let fall by the wayside.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and the Binder of DOOM is still not updated. I hope the VP doesn’t need it anytime soon. *sigh*

It looks like I’m doing better at this whole blogging thing this year. We’ll see how well that goes once work starts up again. Yesterday, we had another lazy day. Slept til noon, woke up… lounged around all day, and finally showered and dressed around 5:30 so we could go shopping. Since we got the new TV in the bedroom, we’ve been looking for the pillows-with-arms (aka “bed rest pillows”, apparently). Joe found out that there were available ones at a local Sears, and I had some Macy’s gift cards to spend, so we stopped at Macy’s first to see if they had them. They didn’t, but I did find the Crock Pot I wanted, and we went to Sears to get our pillows. They only had one, unfortunately, but it was on clearance so we bought it anyway. :D

We stopped at Target, too, to get a couple of things, and on a whim we went over where they had pillows, and we found another one!! Score! :) So we got two arm-pillow things, and a crock pot. Unfortunately, when we got home and opened the crock pot (which came with a mini dipper crock pot), it was broken. :( I took it back today to exchange it, and now we have Crock-Pot-y goodness!

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to use it until next weekend. :( I don’t feel comfortable setting it while we’re gone all day, especially for the first time we use it, so Saturday, we’re having some sort of something in the crock pot, and I CAN’T WAIT! :)

Today is a very rare type of day. Today is one of the very rare days where I don’t have to be at work and Joe does. (*insert Nelson “HA HA!” laugh here*) How am I spending it? Well, I spent the first two hours lying in bed and reading.

002.365: Reading

Then I got up and decided to catch up on blogs… I knit for a bit. I read some more blogs. I knit a little more. Now I’m enjoying a steaming mug of Ghiradelli Hot Cocoa (which is DELICIOUS! I think it rivals Starbucks, and I LOVE their hot chocolate. All it needs is some peppermint.. and some whipped cream or marshmallows, hehe.) courtesy of a work gift basket, and I’m about to go knit some more while I listen to some podcasts.

I still haven’t showered or brushed my hair or even changed out of my pajamas. I think everyday should be like this.

I am here to let you in on a little secret.

THE HACIENDA EXIT IS NOT YOUR PERSONAL 580 ON RAMP!!

Despite what your mother told you, YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL, and you don’t get to use the EXIT LANE as an ON RAMP! The Hacienda exit is a TWO LANE EXIT because LOTS of people get off there. The left lane – gets this, turns left. The right lane…get THIS.. turns right. The left lane is NOT your personal on ramp to 580 just because you don’t feel like sitting in traffic.

If you don’t want to sit in traffic, MOVE CLOSER TO YOUR JOB, find an alternative route, leave a little earlier or stay a little later. There is no reason that people who are using the exit lane for its INTENDED PURPOSE, should have to swerve and veer and almost get in an accident with OTHER drivers who are using the other exit lane for its intended purpose because you decide to stop on a dime because you might have found a small opening into which to shove the nose of your car.

You all suck.

Oh my gosh, how quickly things can change in just an evening… and not I’m a good way. Yesterday was very depressing.

I walked into work yesterday morning, high off Tuesday night’s victory for Obama only to have the wind knocked out of me. My “work BFF” was laid off yesterday, and I’m still reeling from the shock of it. Nobody is safe in these hard times, and yesterday was a reminder of that. S is a great girl, and I am sure she will land on her feet, but the rest of us admins sure do miss her.

On top of that, I am pissed off at my fellow Californians for passing a completely stupid proposition. To my friends who are in a same-sex relationship, I am so sorry you are being treated so unfairly. I hope that one day we will fix this.

(if you couldn’t tell, I have nothing to do right now, so I just typed up this whole post on my iPhone. It looks likes novel on here, but it will probably only be like 2 sentances long once I post this. LOL. I really wish I could read or knit right now, but that’s a little harder to hide if necessary. I am so glad I bought this thing!)

If you live in the US and are legally able to vote, I urge you to cast your ballot tomorrow, if you have not already participated in early voting.

I’m not political, and I won’t shove my beliefs down your throat, except for the fact that I urge you.. I IMPLORE you.. to exercise your right to vote tomorrow. We live in a great country (even if it doesn’t seem like it right now), and we have many rights and freedoms that other people do not have. This is one of them.

We’ll vote 100 million times for our favorite American Idol, Dancing with the Stars or whatever other “reality show” contestants, but so many people choose not to exercise their right to vote when it comes to something *IMPORTANT*.

Please, go to the polls tomorrow… stand in line (take some knitting or a book to read, LOL)… make your voice heard.
